How we got started

GlimmerGlass Alpacas began in 1988 under the guise of Thornapple Farm Inc. and evolved to become Leatherstocking Miniature Horses. Until 1998, we were actively breeding and showing our horses, enjoying considerable success along the way. Meanwhile, our alpaca herd was growing and our children were embarking on their own life journeys. We soon found ourselves with many horses and many alpacas and fewer helping hands! Something had to give and that something was the horses! It took awhile but we now find ourselves with rejuvenated pastures, bouncing crias and a barn full of fiber!
Fiber is really the reason I was attracted to alpacas and it was only by chance that I was able to indulge my passion. I received a phone call from a woman who was helping me market my horses. She had a lovely black female alpaca weanling for sale and was I interested???? You bet! My husband said (quite naively) "you know you can't have just one!". With that statement, GlimmerGlass Alpacas was born!
Now, almost 11 years later, we're still excited about our herd and continue to explore the multitude of avenues available to us through the alpaca industry. It's a journey we take every day and are grateful for the opportunity to do so.
